MEL OTT BASEBALL & SOFTBALL TIE BREAKER RULES

 Tie Breaker Rules

To break ties in regular season, play and accurately slot teams into the seeded playoffs,
Mel Ott Baseball & Softball has adopted the following rules to break ties:

1. Winning Percentage
Highest of: (Total Number of Wins (3 points) plus (Total Number of Ties (2 points)) divided by Total Number of Games played.
Example:
Record of 5 – 3 – 2.
Wins (5) x 3 points = 15 points,
+ Ties (2) x 2 points = 10 points
= 25 points /10 = 2.5

2. Head to Head Winning Percentage
Highest of all teams tied after computing #1 of: (Total Number of Wins (3 points) against tied teams in #1 plus (Total Number of Ties (2 points) against tied teams in #1) divided by Total Number of Games played against tied teams in #1

3. Head to Head Run Differential
Highest of: Total number of runs scored when playing all tied teams in #2 - total number of runs allowed when playing tied teams in #2

4. Head to Head Runs Against
Lowest of: Total number of runs allowed when playing all tied teams in #2

5. Head to Head Runs For
Highest of: Total number of runs scored when playing all tied teams in #2

6. Run Differential Overall
Highest of: Total number of runs scored for all games played in the division - total number of runs allowed for all games played in the division

7. Runs Against Overall
Lowest of: Total number of runs allowed for all games played in the division

8. Runs For Overall
Highest of: Total number of runs scored for all games played in the division

9. Number of Forfeits
Lowest of: total number of forfeits in the season

10. Coin Flip
The two managers meet with a league representative, and the league representative will toss a coin. The manager with the team name that would come first sorted alphabetically is the one that calls "heads" or "tails" while coin is in the air. If more than two teams are still tied after #9, coin flips occur between all managers once and the manager with the highest number of "wins" will get the better seed. Coin flips continue until all ties are broken.
